Happy New Year! I hope 2018 is treating you well so far and that you have lots of big plans for the upcoming year. Here at Hat and Mouse I have a bit of sad news as I've decided that with the new year will also come the closing of Hat and Mouse. After eight years I am ready to hang up my hat and move on to some new opportunities in life, so this will be our last year of operation! I want to personally thank each and every one of you for your support over the years. This venture has been a lot of fun and come with a lot of learning and it wouldn't have been the same without all my Mousettes! Thank you so much for everything!
Now, don't panic yet. Hat and Mouse won't be going away tomorrow or even the next day, but this will mark the start of winding down the shop and tying up loose ends. I still have a lot of hats I want to get out there before the shop closes completely and a LOT of supplies I'd like to work though so I've put together a little Q and A so you'll have an idea of what to expect over the next few months.
Q: When will Hat and Mouse's last day of operation be?
A: At this point I don't have an exact day, but I can tell you it will be as early as Spring this year or as late as Fall depending on how quickly things go.
Q: Will you still be restocking and making new designs during this time?
A: Yes! I have a whole studio full of supplies right now and lots of designs I've never even had a chance to make, so I'll be creating as much as possible before the final closure.
Q: Do you know what designs you will be restocking?
A: At this point, no. It's really going to depend on what materials I have on hand. Obviously, I don't want to be adding to my supply stock so as things run out designs will become unavailable. As I'm restocking I will definitely keep everyone informed as things run low so you won't miss your last chance on anything.
Q: Will you be selling at Dapper Day?
A: Yes, we will be selling at Spring Dapper Day in April and will make a determination about Fall as the date approaches. If we do make it to the fall event it will likely be our blowout event for any inventory we still have.
Q: Will you still be working with any wholesale accounts?
A: That is unknown at this time. I have toyed with idea of making just a handful of our most popular items continually available to our wholesale vendors, but that may not be feasible. Right now the only designs that will still be available after we close are some of the Harry Potter-inspired designs. I am currently working on distributing that line to a new shop collective that should be opening later this year. Stay tuned for more info!
Q: Do you have any recommendations for other shops to get fascinators from after you close?
A: Yes! I am working on training another shop owner to make fascinators and will be passing on my techniques and some of my design elements to them once I close. My designs still belong to me and I will continue to protect them from those that try to copy them, so stay tuned to find out who I will be officially passing the torch on to!
Q: Will you still be maintaing the website?
A: For now, yes. At some point I may move everything over to etsy and close the website, but for now everything will operate as normal!
Q: Are you going to miss Hat and Mouse?
A: Of course! This shop and all of you have been a HUGE part of my life for the last few years. I will definitely be keeping in touch with a lot of friends I've made and I'll still be creating a little through the Harry Potter shop collective, which will help. But running a craft business full time is a lot of work and I have some new exciting opportunities coming up this year that I don't want to miss, so sadly, it's time to close the chapter on Hat and Mouse.
Once again, I want to thank all of you for helping my little shop to grow and succeed in ways I never thought possible and for letting me be a part of your lives in a small way! Let's make the next few months amazing and go out with a bang!
Love and Hugs,
Lisa Marie at Hat and Mouse
